South Bay Musical Theater to Shout Live Shows – The Mercury News

The South Bay Musical Theater returns this month with “SHOUT! The Mod Musical ”, which will be on stage from September 25 to October 25. 16 at the Saratoga Civic Theater.

The show follows five friends through the 1960s as they redefine themselves in the face of changing attitudes towards the genre, using classic pop songs to illustrate those changes. The songs are linked together by sound clips ranging from ’60s commercials to letters answered by a advice columnist who believes every problem can be solved with a “new hairstyle and a new shade of lipstick.”

Created by Phillip George, David Lowenstein and Peter Charles Morris, “SHOUT!” features new songs from arrangements like “To Sir with Love”, “Son of a Preacher Man” and “Goldfinger”.

“YELL!” marks SBMT’s first live production since the shutdown of “She Loves Me” in February 2020. In the meantime, the company has handled the pandemic shutdown by launching the SBMT eStudio, which has hosted around 100 different virtual events.

For SBMT Executive Director Sara K. Dean, the song that best illustrates her feelings about her return to the theater is “Downtown” by Petula Clark.

“He says it best: ‘Maybe we’ll see you over there; we can forget all our problems, forget all our worries, ”Dean said in a statement.

“YELL!” is directed and choreographed by Lee Ann Payne, with musical and vocal direction by Debra Lambert.

The 2021-2022 season of SBMT will continue with the “Company” of Tony Winner Stephen Sondheim and George Furth from January 29 to February 29. 19, 2022, and ends with “On the Town”, from May 14 to June 4.
