Bangladesh claimed victory over New Zealand in the first test match, winning by eight wickets at Mount Maunganui. After the win, the visitors were elated especially as it was against the reigning WTC champions and it was also their first test win in New Zealand in any format. To cherish their special victory, Bangladesh cricketers celebrated in their locker room with a popular song and looked elated with happiness. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) took to social media to share a video of the moment and it was well received by fans who congratulated the team.

BCB captioned the video as follows: “Bangladesh team dressing room celebrations after historic victory at Mount Maunganui”.

The visitors needed just 40 points in their second run and did so in one session on the last day. Ebadot Hossain’s six-wicket run proved crucial as New Zealand was eliminated for 169 in their second set, making it easier for Bangladesh to win the first game of the test series in two games.

It was also New Zealand’s first loss in 16 home tests in the past four years.

New Zealand got off to a good start in the first test and recorded a total of 328 points, with Devon Conway crushing 122 points on 227 balls. But Bangladesh had a better response and were eliminated for 458, taking a lead in the first set.

Mahmudul Hasan (78), Haque (88) and Liton Das (86) played crucial punches for Bangladesh in the opening innings.

Despite half a century of Will Young, New Zealand scored 169 points in their second set.


Needing just 40 races on day 5, Bangladesh reached 42 for two in the first session.

The visitors will aim for a draw and win the series in their second test match, which kicks off on January 9 in Christchurch.
