Origin

Edward Christopher Sheeran, better known as Ed Sheeran was born in Halifax in West Yorkshire, England. Her father John is an art curator and lecturer and her mother is a cultural publicist who worked at the City Art Gallery. Naturally, Ed developed a talent for art and music and began his musical journey at an early age. He started singing in the local church choir when he was just 4 years old and developed his guitar skills when he was just 11 years old. By the time the artist went to high school, he became seasoned enough to write and compose his own tracks.

In school, he obtained the title of “Natural Performer” and he became very famous thanks to his singing and acting skills. He joined the National Youth Theater and later became patron of the Youth Music Theatre.

Ed has been trying through auditions and collaborations since he was just 15. He even started playing in local venues until he gained enough recognition from his fellow rappers and other established musical artists in London. After some major trial and error, the artist achieved his first worldwide recognition with the single “The A Team”.

“The A Team” was released in 2011 and was featured in the artist’s first single titled “+” or Plus. This first studio album was an international success which became the best-selling album of that year. ‘+’ sold over 801,000 copies and the singles appearing on the album broke top chart records in many countries. Peaking at the top of the UK charts, Ed’s songs have gradually spread to every corner of the world while winning the hearts of pop lovers everywhere.

‘x’ (Multiply)

It is the second studio album released in 2014, featuring seventeen hit singles like “Photograph”, “I’m a Mess”, “The Man”, “Runaway”, etc. ‘Sing’ was the first single from the album which created a buzz among listeners. The album ‘x’ topped the UK Albums Chart with the US BillBoard 200. Not only generating sales but also streams, the album reached 860 million streams on Spotify, which made Sheeran the most streamed music artist. The single “Thinking Out Loud” helped him win back-to-back Grammy Awards in 2016.

‘÷’ (Divide)

This album was released in 2016 and broke the internet with its incredible 16 singles and media campaigns. It is Sheeran’s best-selling album which sold over 672,000 copies in the first week of its release. Two of the album’s singles named “Shape of You” and “Cast on the Hill” took Sheeran to a whole new level. Going through each playlist, the tracks ranked at number 1 and 2 on the UK top charts.

Collaborations Project #6

It is one of Sheeran’s latest projects and fourth studio album which showcases a collection of collaborative projects across its fifteen enigmatic singles. The track “I Don’t Care” with Justin Bieber broke all records with 10.977 million daily global streams. Similarly, “Beautiful People” featuring Khalid debuted at number three on the UK Top Charts. The success was quickly followed by another track ‘Cross Me’ where Ed worked with Chance the Rapper and PnB Rock. “Best Part of Me” with YEBBA and Antisocial with Travis Scott also generated huge buzz among pop and hip-hop fans.

‘=’ (equals) & Merry Christmas

This fifth studio album was released in October 2021 and offered listeners a different and dynamic side of the artist. The album’s lead single “Bad Habits” spent a total of 11 weeks at the top of the UK Singles Chart. Given the festive mood, Ed collaborated with Elton John and released a single titled ‘Merry Christmas’ in late November 2021.

Some amazing facts about Teddy

Many fans may already know that Teddy is Ed’s nickname. Ed also likes to name his guitars that accompany his musical journey. The names are Cyril, Felix, Lloyd, Keith, Trevor, Nigel and James the Second.

Ed isn’t the only one breaking records as his cat Graham took over the internet by getting 71,000 Twitter followers on his first day.

On his 25th birthday, Ed went to Iceland and got frozen. He even tried to boil his feet, which got even worse. He said, “I couldn’t walk for a few months…It was disgusting when they put the skin graft on. The skin should heal over it. It was bad.”

He once said, “All my songs have colors, ‘You Need Me, I Don’t Need You’, for example, is eggplant.”

Ed Sheeran prefers to use his phone as little as possible. He once said: “I love life without a phone – it’s a lot less complicated”.
