Jazz guitarist Julian Lage has announced dates for his 2021 North American tour. Lage also shared a performance video for “Familiar Flower” from his upcoming album, Strabismus, scheduled for June 11 via Blue Note folders.
The first stop on Lage’s North American tour to support Strabismus, her debut with Blue Note, will debut on September 25 in Los Angeles. Lage and his band on tour – bassist Jorge Roeder and drummer Kenny wollesen will then head to the West Coast with stops in San Francisco, Portland and Seattle before heading east via engagements in Colorado before a brief run through the Midwest. The first leg ends in Toronto on October 9. Lage will resume in New York on December 4 before games in Philadelphia, Washington DC, Atlanta and more. The second leg ends in Nashville on December 12.
In anticipation of the tour, Julian also shared a performance video for the Strabismus “Familiar flower” track. The song and video feature Roeder as well as the drummer Dave king. Lage dedicates the song to jazz master and saxophonist Charles Lloyd, with whom he has worked in recent years. Lage spoke of Lloyd’s influence in a press release.
“Charles writes and arranges his songs somehow so that the second the beat starts, you know it’s his tune,” Lage said. “Its DNA is simply integrated into the rhythm section. I still don’t know how he does it, but I tried to write this tune to set the tone before I even walked in.
