Before there was BTS, there was “Gangnam Style”. Yes, just a few years ago, K-pop superstar Psy was breaking Youtube records and paving the way for K-pop to become the international force it is today. “Gangnam Style” might have been dismissed by many as an ironic gimmick track, but they would underestimate the overall appeal of Psy’s playful pop style.
His latest single, “That That,” might have a cowboy feel based on the cover art he shared on Instagram announcing the track’s release — it’s also produced by none other than BTS’s Suga. He also shared a brief snippet of the video, and possibly the song itself, which you can check out above.
The song will debut Psy’s new album, Psy 9thwhich will be released this Friday (!) Regarding the single, Suga and Psy opened up about how much working together brought them together.
“At first, because he’s been my senior for many years and someone who is very well respected in the business, I was quite nervous,” Suga said in another clip shared on Instagram. “I felt like I was working with a childhood friend, which made the songwriting process even more fun. We became best friends in a way.
“I don’t want to be a difficult person to approach,” says Psy. “He just wasn’t my junior in the company, but he definitely feels like a friend. It was hard to feel an age gap. If he sees me as a best friend, that’s fine. for me.
The single and album drop this Friday, so stay tuned for new music from Psy.
