Franco Ambrosetti Band | Lost in you
For Lost Within You, Swiss-born trumpeter and bugle Franco Ambrosetti is joined by a band to die for that includes several great Hudson Valley jazz greats among its members: guitarist John Scofield, pianists Rene Rosnes and Uri Caine, bassist Scott Colley and drummer Jack DeJohnette, who makes a rare piano appearance here for the Horace Silver composition “Peace”. It’s hard bop gem is one of the standard hiding places inhabited by the all-star musical group during this sumptuous slow-simmering set. But in the midst of reliable and magnificent interpretations of “Body and Soul”, “Flamenco Sketches” and others, are some worthy Ambrosetti originals; in “Dreams of a Butterfly,” Caine’s keys unfurl like the wings of the creature of the same name before the melody takes flight via the softly bubbling grooves of DeJohnette and Colley and the graceful, slippery lines of the leader. True to its title, it is an album in which to lose yourself, on several occasions.
